South African Civil Aviation Regulations for Safety Management Systems

The Civil Aviation Regulation in terms of Safety Management Systems has been presented before the Minister. The Civil Aviation Regulations (SMS) is expected to come into effect on 15 March 2010. Should there be any changes to the said date; updates will be posted on the website. We are currently accepting Safety Management System Manuals from industry, which should be forwarded to the relevant Inspector normally responsible for your organization approval for acceptance. Approval of these manuals will only be done once the Regulations have been approved by the Minister.

Further to the above the latest version of the Technical Standard is available on the website, as well as a copy of the Implementation Guidance and the Training Guidance material which is required as per Technical Standard “A training requirements document providing the requirements and syllabus for the initial training shall be published by the Commissioner”
