The Board of
the SA Civil Aviation Authority today announced the appointment of Mr. Zakes
Zenzele Gilbert Myeza as the new Chief Executive Officer of the aviation
regulatory body with effect from
The Authority
has been without a permanent CEO for the past 3 years. Mr. Myeza replaces Mr. Mongezi
The Chairman of
the CAA Board, Mr Duke Moorosi, described Mr Myeza as a dynamic person who will
take the regulatory body to a higher level.
The appointment of Mr Myeza follows a string of unsuccessful recruitment
endeavours to find a suitable candidate for this position. “I am confident that Mr. Myeza is the right
person for this job given his extensive management experience and aviation
background”, said Mr Moorosi.
Mr.
Moroosi would like to thank Mr.
Mr. Myeza has a
B Com (Accounting)(with distinctions) in accounting, income tax, commercial law
and statistics and an MBA qualification he obtained in 1993. Amongst other
qualifications, he boasts a certificate in aviation management from the
International Aviation Management Training Institute (IAMTI) in
He has more than 15 years experience in general
business management, specialising in finance.
Mr. Myeza operated at senior level in both the public and private
sectors, with emphasis in service driven organisations.
Mr. Zakes Myeza currently serves at the Johannesburg
Development Agency (JDA) Pty Ltd as an Executive Director: Finance and Support
Services looking after the following portfolios:
He sits on the Executive Committee and in the
following Board Committees: Developments and Risk Committee; Remuneration
Committee, Tender Committee; Audit Committee and Marketing and Communications
Committee.
He held executive leadership roles with extensive board,
financial and operational experience in the following companies and industries:
Petronet in the petroleum transportation industry; ACSA Ltd in the aviation
industry; Gtech S.A. Ltd. (a subsidiary
of Gtech Holdings listed in the New York Stock Exchange) in the ICT industry.
He has been instrumental in setting up and
operationalising effective businesses in the retail, property and ICT
industries, in some of the companies that he worked for. Over and above
financial management, auditing and accounting, his strengths include, inter
alia, structuring development finance, operations, and implementation of good
corporate governance, mega programmes, mega infrastructure projects and risk
management. He also has extensive experience in mega capital project evaluation
and control.
Zakes currently serves as a Director at the Newtown
Development Company Pty Ltd and the Constitution Hill Development Company Pty
Ltd. On a voluntary basis he serves as a
treasurer and trustee of the Johannesburg Trust for
the Homeless.
