SACAA AND SATAWU REACH AN AGREEMENT

MEDIA STATEMENT

16 DECEMBER 2006

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) and the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) yesterday agreed to jointly engage the services of a private arbitrator on Monday 18 December 2006 at 11am, to rule over the dispute on performance bonuses. During the negotiations, the parties also agreed in principle that SATAWU would suspend their strike from Monday.    The SATAWU delegation however, still had to get a final blessing from their members on this.

The SATAWU strike was with regard to the payment of performance-based bonuses in December 2006, which goes against the SACAA board of directors’ resolution to delay this until after the financial year end (March 2007) and also after ensuring that payment of such is based on an approved performance management system.
