Aircraft accident near Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria

 

An aircraft accident occurred at 7h30 on Friday in Wonderboom suburb, an area north of central Pretoria.

 

The aircraft, a Cessna 177 (registration ZS-JMW), with three people onboard, took off from Wonderboom Airport en-route to Tzaneen in the Limpopo Province. Shortly after the take - off, the Air Traffic Controller requested the pilot to return to Wonderboom Airport. In the turnaround manoeuvre, the pilot lost control of the aircraft and shortly afterwards crashed into a boma situated on a property in Klippan Street, which is situated approximately one kilometre south east of the airport.

 

All three people on board were killed on impact. None of the occupants of the house situated on the property were injured. The boma and the surrounding wall were completely destroyed.

 

Two of the deceased  have been positively identified and their next - of - kin have been notified. They are: Ronnie Janse Van Rensburg (39) from Benoni and Jacques Swanepoel (31) from Centurion, Pretoria. The third person's name will be released as soon as the next-of-kin have been notified.
