Human Factors
Human Factors for Part 66 is a requirement by ICAO.  However, the SACAA will not implement this requirement until the 2011 Regulations are enforced. Clients that have started with the training should therefore continue as this requisite will only be enforced once all processes are in place. The industry will be notified when it is required as well as approved Human factor courses provided by approved ATO’s will be recognized.

Flight Crew Training at Foreign Training Organisations 

Read this if you plan to undertake training or testing at a foreign training or type rating organisation or on any foreign Flight Simulation Training Device.

ATPL (H)- Flight planning & Performance examination

This serves as an early warning notice to all ATPL (H) examination candidates: It is the intention of the SACAA to implement a specific ATPL(H) Flight planning & Performance examination based on the Sikorsky S-92 to replace the current examination based on the B747. This examination will be available for optional use as of 1 May 2011 but will be compulsory as of 1 January 2012. Candidates for the ATPL(H) may still elect to do the ATPL (A) Flight planning & performance examination (based on B747) until 31 December 2011. Once a candidate has applied to write the ATPL (H) Flight planning & Performance examination, he/she will not be permitted to revert to the ATPL (A) Flight planning & Performance examination.

Night Rating Examination

The CAA online Night Rating examination will only be compulsory as of 1 June 2011. An AIC has been drafted to this effect but will only be published in March 2011. Until the 1st of June 2011,  to satisfy the requirements of CAR 61.14.1(1)(c), ATOs may use EITHER their own internal examinations OR  the CAA online examination which is available at all approved test centres.
