Aviation Safety Recommendations
The South
African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) hosted the inaugural Aviation Safety
Seminar in February 2006. This Seminar was aimed, amongst others, at setting
safety targets for accident and incidents reduction for the next three years.
Through the
Seminar, the civil aviation industry successfully came up with a number of
safety targets. The CAA will be leading the way in determining intervention
strategies that will enable the industry in playing its role.
The seminar also came up
with recommendations to be implemented by the CAA and the industry in the
current financial year (April 2006 to March 2007).
Various forums
such as the Industry Liaison and the Safety Forum will be used for tracking and
reporting back on the recommendations. The CAA will keep a centralised register
of the implementation process.
The CAA commenced with the
hosting of regional seminars and as from September a number of road shows will
be hosted in preparation for the next national seminar. Industry members will be informed about
seminars and related matters via various publications as well as the CAA
website.
The
CAA has pleasure in introducing the LETSEMA Magazine, which will be published
annually. “Letsema” is a Tswana word which means “partnerships" or
"working together”. The LETSEMA magazine is dedicated to the Aviation
Safety Seminars, and in part serves as a report on the proceedings of the
Seminars.
The
CAA is also introducing Aviation Safety Awards.
CAA employees, general public and the aviation industry are invited to
forward nominations for individuals who are making exceptional contributions
towards safety. The "Night of Honour" will be held after the next
seminar to award and honour individuals who contributed towards safety. Please
read the LETSEMA magazine to get more information on the Safety Awards.
The
magazine can be obtained free of charge at the CAA offices.
