Medical Examiners

Designated Aviation Medical Examiners

Designated Aviation Medical Examiners (DAME) means "aeromedically qualified doctors designated by the Commissioner", and they are granted the authority to perform medical examinations or tests required for the issuing of Class I, II, III and IV medical Certificates. Designated Medical Examiners serve their communities as aviation safety experts with regard to medical matters. They have the responsibility to ensure that only applicants who are physically and medically capable of performing safely, may exercise the privileges of their certificate. There are three categories of designated medical examiners, namely Regular, Senior and Foreign Medical Examiners.

Regular DAMEs

Designated Regular DAMEs are newly qualified (Aviation Medicine) examiners who have the authority to perform medical examinations for Class II (Private Pilot, Pupil Pilot & Cabin Crew), and Class IV(Recreational Pilots) only. The Commissioner continuously evaluates the performance of each DAME, and only those examiners that demonstrate satisfactory performance and meet the designation requirements prescribed in the Regulations and Technical Standards contained in Part 67 of the Civil Aviation Regulations are considered for renewal. The designation criteria are contained in Part 67 of the Civil Aviation Regulations and Technical Standards.

Senior DAMEs

Senior DAMEs have the authority to perform medical examinations for Class I, II, III and IV licence holders. Designated Senior Medical Examiners are required to demonstrated satisfactory performance for (3) three as Regular DAMEs, before they can be considered for seniority. The Commissioner continuously evaluates the performance of each DAME, and only those examiners that demonstrate satisfactory performance and meet the designation requirements prescribed in the Regulations and Technical Standards contained in Part 67 of the Civil Aviation Regulations are considered for renewal .
